The IHBC’s 2022 Aberdeen School conference looks at ‘Heritage on the Edge’. It examines how practitioners and stakeholders can and should manage change to the most challenging of heritage. That heritage may be ‘on the edge’ for any of many reasons, including geography, technology, changing taste, new environmental awareness etc.

The IHBC is especially excited that Griff Rhys Jones – President of the Victorian Society and of Civic Voice among his many other roles – will explore the challenges of conserving Victorian and other heritage that is ‘on the edge’, in a recorded conversation with the IHBC’s Chair David McDonald.’

Griff Rhys Jones said: ‘I wrote in my introduction to the IHBC’s 2020 Yearbook that ‘I believe more than anything that conservation is about the future’, and that conservation is there ‘to help manage change.’

The Day School and tours are the heart of the Aberdeen 2022 School. These are detailed on the IHBC website, while Full School delegates will access both a drinks reception on the Thursday evening and the Annual Dinner/Civic Reception on the Friday evening.

IHBC Director Seán O’Reilly said; ‘Don’t forget that both virtual and in-person delegates are invited to the IHBC’s learning-led, virtual School Heritage MarketPlace, on the late afternoon and evening of 15 March too... Alongside specialist virtual stalls, this year the MarketPlace also features a virtual ‘Happy Hour with the IHBC’, offering the chance for some more informal chat and conversation with our trustees, officers, members and networks.’

[edit] The IHBC writes:

‘The details of our planned hybrid 2022 School programme are now available, as booking opens, and the Branch School Committee and IHBC National Office partnership has an impressive line-up in place. However prospective delegates should be aware that in-person places are limited while both in-person and virtual delegates must be clear that arrangements are subject to substantial change as future pandemic impacts have not been discounted.’
