The use of cane in construction
In the construction industry, 'cane' typically refers to a hard, hollow stem of a plant such as bamboo or reed that can be used to make furniture, baskets, radiator covers and so on. It has also been used on a larger scale as a material for constructing or cladding walls, roofs and fences, and bamboo has been used for scaffolding and for structural applications. Cane can also be split and used as 'rope', typically for tying bamboo, and cane waste has been used to manufacture fibrous reinforcement for products such as ceiling boards, and even concrete.
Cane can also refer to: 'A multicoloured glass rod, made by heating, perhaps twisting and extending together a number of individual rods of different colours.'
