Nbs

The NBS is owned by RIBA Enterprises Ltd, part of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). It operates to make a profit for the benefit of RIBA members.

NBS stands for National Building Specification. Based in in Newcastle upon Tyne, the NBS has been creating specification products for over 40 years. Its products include the national standard specification system for the UK which was launched in 1973 and describes the materials, standards and workmanship for construction projects. NBS specification products now cover building construction, engineering services and landscape design.

They also produce the Construction Information Service (in collaboration with IHS), and since 2005 have been publisher of the building regulations approved documents for England and Wales.

In 2012, the NBS launched a National BIM Library (Building Information Modelling) which includes a range of generic and proprietary BIM elements.
