50th Golden anniversary ECA Edmundson apprentice award launched
[edit] Nominations still open for the 50th ECA Edmundson Apprentice of the Year award.
In 2025, this golden anniversary year, ECA (Electrical Contractors’ Association) and Edmundson Electrical recognise exceptionally talented apprentices from ECA Member businesses.
Apprentices are important role models in the construction industry by encouraging others to make electrical engineering a career through apprenticeship schemes. Apprentices and ECA Members also help the UK to ensure it has the skilled workforce to support future demand, including for the low carbon transition.
Nominees have the chance to win rewards including £3,000 an overseas study trip to Austria and a state-of-the-art toolkit to begin their electrical engineering careers.
The winner’s ECA Member employer also has the chance to win a one-year BSI subscription (for businesses with a turnover below £6.5 million), and a one-year Electrical OM Licence worth more than £300.
Two runners-up apprentices and their ECA employers will also be rewarded.
Carolyn Mason, Strategic Skills Adviser at ECA, commented:
“Together with Edmundson Electrical, we have been proudly showcasing the talent of apprentices across England, Northern Ireland and Wales over the past 50 years.
“They have helped to advance the UK in the electrical sector and are vital today in the journey of safe transition to net zero.
“Our ECA Members also continue to play an important role in this safe transition by employing and upskilling apprentices, so that they can ensure the futureproofing of electrification in the UK for years to come.”
Shortlisted award candidates will be invited to a final stage in-person interview with the judging panel at ECA’s offices in July.
The winner will be announced at an awards luncheon to be held on Tuesday 16 September at The Royal Society.
The deadline for submissions to the award is Friday 30 May 2025. For more details about eligibility and how to apply, visit ECA’s website.
