Beach management
Groynes in coastal engineering (CIRIA C793), published by CIRIA in 2020, defines Beach management as: ‘The process of managing a beach, whether by monitoring, simple intervention, recycling, nourishment, the construction or maintenance of beach control structures or by some combination of these techniques in a way that reflects an acceptable compromise in the light of available finance, between the various coastal defence, nature conservation, public amenity and industrial objectives.
It suggests a beach management plan: ‘…provides a basis for the management of a beach for coastal defence purposes, taking into account coastal processes and the other uses of the beach. Beach manager.’
And a beach manager as someone that: ‘…seeks to manage or operate a beach as a natural/recreational resource, or as a means of coastal defence, while providing facilities that meet the needs and aspirations of those who use the beach.’
