Retired firefighter cycles around the world to raise funds for Grenfell youth projects and schools
[edit] 30,000 km for £30,000
Stephen Aslin a retired fire-fighter who was brought up, lived and worked in North Kensington will leave on the 4th June 2025 and cycle around the world to raise £30,000 for the Grenfell Foundation, particularly for youth projects and schools in the local area.
He says 'the impact of the Grenfell fire still hits hard' and is planning to visit fire stations along the 30,000 km journey to promote his challenge.

The Grenfell Foundation was set up at the request of some survivors and bereaved families following the Grenfell Tower fire on 14 June 2017. We provide independent support and advocacy for the former residents of Grenfell Tower and the bereaved families and dependents.
In the weeks and months after the Grenfell fire, people across the country showed incredible generosity to everyone affected and that continues to this day. The Grenfell Foundation helps to channel that spirit and the funds raised by the Foundation to projects that will provide support to those affected by the Grenfell Tower tragedy for the long-term, as well as to initiatives that support awareness of what happened and change to ensure nothing similar happens again.
As the timelines towards any sort of Justice keep extending, it is important the foundation carefully plan how to raise and utilise our funds to ensure we can maintain a subtle but supportive presence for years to come.

Family Support
Much of the work that the Grenfell Foundation carries out is behind the scenes and respects the confidentiality of the affected families. The team provides hands on, day-to day advocacy for survivors and bereaved families, connecting them to support and advice as needed. The small team also provide additional staff support when required to family groups such as Grenfell United, and other bereaved and survivor lead initiatives that fit within their aims.
Projects supporting survivors, the bereaved and others in the community
Whilst the Grenfell Foundation is not primarily a grant-making charity, recognising that there are many funders that support community organisations in North Kensington, we can occasionally help with requests for funding that specifically relate to the community affected by Grenfell. The requests are usually made to us by bereaved family members and survivors and can demonstrate how they will benefit those affected. Requests do not need to be exclusively for the benefit of the bereaved and survivors though they will be given priority.
Llimited amount of funding available to support projects from the bereaved and survivors which are generally to improve health and wellbeing or for education or awareness and where a small amount can make a meaningful difference.
Small one-off requests
The fund can pay for small, one-off items such as stationery, equipment or space hire that support in the areas of Wellbeing, Memorial and Awareness. The amounts agreed paid to the supplier direct by Grenfell Foundation.
Special Projects
In addition to supporting the Grenfell anniversary, silent walks and awareness campaigns, the foundation sometimes funds special projects that have the Grenfell community at the heart of them and can be appreciated by the whole North Kensington community. A recent example of this is the next phase of the Grenfell Community Mosaic Project which is run by ACAVA in partnership with Al Manaar and has become an iconic symbol of the community working together in remembrance. Occasionally special projects which clearly demonstrate how they support the health and wellbeing of bereaved families and survivors can be supported
The foundation provides independent support to the former residents of Grenfell Tower, bereaved families, dependants, and the community. Please see their website for more information. https://www.grenfellfoundation.org.uk/
