Metallic, insulated flexible ductwork
BS EN 13180 defines flexible ductwork as: 'Duct which can be manually longitudinally compressed or decompressed and flexed without permanently damaging the cross section area'
Structural Fixings for Ductwork Systems BG 10/2010, By Glenn Hawkins, Published by BSRIA in 2010, lists the following types of flexible ductwork:
- Metallic, uninsulated flexible ductwork
- Metallic, insulated flexible ductwork
- Non-metallic, uninsulated flexible ductwork
- Non-metallic, insulated flexible ductwork
- Acoustic flexible ductwork
It suggests that metallic, insulated flexible ductwork is most commonly composed of:
- An inner core of aluminium and polyester laminate supported by an encapsulated high-tensile steel wire helix
- Fibreglass, mineral wool or microfibre insulation
- An outer core of aluminium and polyester laminate.
