Outside Access Device OAD
An Outside Access Device (OAD) is defined in the Code of practice: Hardware for fire and escape doors, Issue 5 (published by DHF and GAI in November 2024) as a 'A mechanism for opening a panic or emergency exit device from the outside of the door, either by lever or knob. A cylinder key is generally used to lock and unlock the OAD. This action does not affect the emergency operation of the escape device.'
