Blockage
Culvert, screen and outfall manual, (CIRIA C786) published by CIRIA in 2019, refers to:
- A variable blockage as: ‘A variable accumulation of debris or sediment that reduces flow area and potentially leads to flooding, scour or other impacts. When on a screen sometimes referred to as blinding’. Where a screen is: ‘An arrangement of bars, grids or poles placed in a watercourse.’
- A permanent blockage as: ‘A permanent fixture such as a service crossing or support that reduces the flow area of a channel, culvert, screen or other structure (eg screen bars).’
