I3P
The Infrastructure Industry Innovation Platform (i3P) is an independent innovation community that was launched in October 2016.
It is based on a model developed for Crossrail’s Innovate18 programme which ran from September 2012 to December 2016 and led to more than 450 innovations being shared and more than £750,000 of investment. Capitalising on this success, the Knowledge Transfer Network, Tideway and Crossrail developed i3P, enabling continued industry collaboration.
i3P is a driver for innovation in the UK infrastructure industry, helping transform ideas into opportunities and practical solutions, and providing a mechanism for directing innovation to address the major challenges facing the industry. By fostering a collaborative culture of innovation i3P creates a ‘safe space’ to identify areas for potential industry improvement, share ideas, and partner in projects that drive increased value.
i3P is governed by representatives from its member organisations. Membership is open to clients of major infrastructure projects and construction programmes and their tier 1 contractors and consultants from across the infrastructure industry. It is managed by an independent secretariat provided by the Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN).
The i3P forum is run by an appointed chair and senior representation from client members.
Its online innovation portal enables staff of member organisations to:
- Upload and download content.
- Access a collaborative space and toolkit.
- Directly connect to members from different organisations to share expertise and ideas.
As it evolves, as well as supporting innovation, it will represent a library of best practice across the industry.
