Safer design
Urban Design Guidelines for Victoria, published by the State of Victoria (Australia) in 2016, defines safer design as: ‘Specific public space design responses aimed at promoting personal safety and reducing people's fear of and vulnerability to crime. Design actions focus on improving safety in places by increasing informal surveillance and community usage of public spaces, reducing opportunities for crime and antisocial behaviour, and creating connected and integrated streets and public places.’
