Mortice latch
A mortice latch is defined in the Code of practice: Hardware for fire and escape doors, Issue 5 (published by DHF and GAI in November 2024) as a 'Latch for fixing in a mortice, usually in the closing edge of a door leaf or window.' as opposed to a mortice lock which is the 'lock for fixing in a mortice, usually in the closing edge of a door leaf or window' or a latch bolt which is the 'moving part of a latch that engages the locking plate'. see also Mortice lock
