Modillion
Modillion refers to a type of historic bracket which is more horizontal or projecting than it is vertical, as such it is a cantilever bracket.
It is normally a relatively plain rectangular block in shape, regularly spaced beneath the soffit of a cornice and in line with structural columns, typically of the Corinthian and sometimes Ionic orders. A mutule is a similar cantilever block, often decorated with small circular extrusions, supporting a Doric cornice. Both extend further horizontally than vertically and as such are cantilever brackets.
