Ha-ha
High Speed Rail (Crewe – Manchester) Environmental Statement, Glossary, abbreviations and references, published by the Department for Transport in 2022, defines a ha-ha as: ‘A boundary to a garden designed not to interrupt the view from the main property. It is formed of a grassy ditch which has gently sloping land to one side and a vertical retaining wall or barrier to the other, which stops at ground level.’
They are often found included in the landscape design of stately homes.
