Southern Beltway project The U.S. Route 22 to I-79 project is a middle section of the ongoing Southern Beltway Project which begins at the southern end of the Findlay Connector. This section lies near the PGH International Airport and will proceed toward future interchanges with Intersate-79 near Cecil Township, Pennsylvania. Scope of Section The estimated cost for this third of nine sections is $91 million. The section is 3.2 miles (5.1 km) in length and includes a 91' (28 m) tall, dual five-span bridge that stretches 1,370' (420 m) in length over State Route 980 and requires nearly six million cubic yards (4.6 million cubic meters) of excavation. Bridge EFCO designed multiple sets of pre-drilled stem forms for the 1-in-24 battered piers that were formed in multiple lifts. In addition to providing equipment for the tall stems, EFCO was able to utilize Joseph Fay’s available inventory of previously purchased EFCO PLATE GIRDERS® and support equipment on the large cap formwork. EFCO supplemented this equipment with standard EFCO REDI-RADIUS® forms and accessories for the soffit forming. Fay is a very experienced user of EFCO equipment and owns a wide variety of PLATE GIRDER sizes, which were used in the design of the cap and abutment forming designs.
