Water closet
Approved Document G (Sanitation, hot water safety and water efficiency), defines a water-closet (WC) as: ‘…a closet that has a separate fixed receptacle connected to a drainage system and separate provision for flushing from a supply of clean water either by the operation of a mechanism or by automatic action. Water-closets are also referred to as WCs..’
This is as opposed to an earth-closet which is: ‘…a closet having a moveable receptacle for the reception on faecal matter and its deoderisation by the use of earth, ashes or chemicals, or by other methods. This will therefore include chemical and composting toilets.’
