Spatial development policy
Spatial development glossary, European Conference of Ministers responsible for Spatial/Regional Planning (CEMAT), Territory and landscape, No 2, published by Council of Europe Publishing in 2007, defines spatial development as: ‘…the evolution of territories in all their dimensions (economic, social, environmental, physical).’
It suggests that a spatial development policy is: ‘…a rather recent concept originating from the 1990s … which means a policy promoting the development of space in accordance with general principles. Various public policies (sectoral and non-sectoral) should converge for the achievement of these general principles…’
