Pedestal sink
A pedestal sink or pedestal basin (also vice versa) is a design of sanitary ware and refers to a sink unit sitting on a single leg or pedestal, normally made of the same ceramic material as the basin. An alternative to this would be a wall hung sink or basin which is fixed to the wall without a pedestal support below, though today many pedestal sinks are likely to also have wall fixings as secondary support.
A variation on a pedestal sink would be a vanity unit, which is a cupboard with a flat surface that houses the sink or basin, normally located in a bathroom or toilet. A vanity unit may also be retrofitted around a pedestal sink to hide the original older feature or simply to create more storage space.
