Function critical maintenance
Business-Focused Maintenance (BG 53/2016), written by Jo Harris and published by BSRIA in May 2016, describes four levels of maintenance:
- Discretionary: non-critical maintenance
- Statutory: Compliance maintenance
- Mandatory: Sector or organisation specific maintenance
- Optimal: Function critical maintenance
It defines function critical maintenance as: ‘…a term introduced in SFG20, NRM3 and BS 8544. It is used to describe the maintenance needed to maintain business critical assets. It is appropriate where failure of an asset could result in risk to business functions. Its aim is to provide the greatest level of confidence in asset reliability, performance and availability.’
