[edit] Introduction
The Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) is an organisation that promotes the design build method of construction project delivery in the United States.
[edit] History
Established in 1993, the organisation came out of a collaboration formed of architectural, engineering and construction (AEC) professionals who felt strongly about the importance of this approach to project design and delivery.
DBIA’s membership is now made up of more than 5,000 AEC professionals as well as project owners, students, teachers, building owners and other stakeholders across multiple disciplines.
[edit] Design-Build Done Right
In addition to providing an opportunity for collaboration, DBIA offers education and certification programmes including its Design-Build Done Right universal best practices approach. Introduced in 2014, this offering categorises 10 best practices and supporting techniques into three areas: procuring services, contracting services and executing the delivery of projects.
The organisation has also created a series of resources for specific market sectors, including transportation, water/wastewater, public private partnerships and so on.
DBIA produces publications, including its Design-Build Manual of Practice. This reference manual includes definitions, selection procedures, project execution checkpoints, tenets of professional ethics, risk management guidelines and so on.
