Dead zone
Guide to Controls (BG 83/2023) written by John Marrow and published by BSRIA in June 2023, defines a dead zone or dead band as: ‘A change in the controlled parameter which is allowed to occur with no control action taking place.’

NB Climate Change 2021 – The Physical Science Basis, Annex VII: Glossary, written by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and published by Cambridge University Press in 2023, defines dead zones as: ‘Extremely hypoxic (i.e., low-oxygen) areas in oceans and lakes, caused by excessive nutrient input from human activities coupled with other factors that deplete the oxygen required to support many marine organisms in bottom and near-bottom water.’
