Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management CIEEM
[edit] About
The Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) are the leading professional membership body representing and supporting ecologists and environmental managers in the UK, Ireland and abroad. Their vision is of a healthy natural environment for the benefit of current and future generations.
With a growing membership and an increasingly influential voice they are transforming the professionalism of the sector, just as its members are transforming understanding of, and attitudes towards, protecting and enhancing our natural environment. It believes working together can make the difference, leading to a world rich in biodiversity, for the benefit of us all, now and in the future.
[edit] History
Formed in 1991 as the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management. From small beginnings, it has grown into an increasingly influential professional body – setting standards, sharing knowledge and providing sound advice to governments on all aspects of ecological and natural environmental management practice.
Its leadership was recognised in 2013 when it was awarded a Royal Charter, becoming the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM – pronounced “sy-eem”). That same year launched its first ever Competency Framework for the profession, which has become the benchmark for practice standards and membership progression.
Further recognised for contributions to the public good came in June 2020 when it became a registered charity in England and Wales.
