Authority
Authority refers to the power or right to make decisions, enforce rules, or control resources, an authority is a body that holds such powers. An authority can also however refer to a person or body that holds specialist knowledge for example if a person is an authority on a particular species. In terms of construction projects common authorities (sometimes referred to as agencies) that might be involved in a project might be the public authorities, local authority, planning authority, local authority building control, building control authority, water authority (or board), water services regulation authority, environment authority (or agency), joint competent authority, fire authority, highway authority, development control authority, contracting authority, street authority, central budget authority and so on etc.
