Water protection zones
Water for life and livelihoods, River basin management plans, Glossary, Published by the Environment Agency in 2016, defines water protection zones as: ‘Areas designated by the Secretary of State, within which activities polluting or harming the water environment can be restricted or prohibited or controlled. Water Protection Zones can be designated at any scale (sub-catchment, catchment or a larger area) and prohibitions, restrictions or requirements are imposed to combat point and/or diffuse sources of water pollution and harm being caused to waters.’
