The Professional Qualifications Act 2022
The Professional Qualifications Act 2022 (PQ Act) received Royal Assent on 28 April 2022, after the Professional Qualifications Bill, was introduced to Parliament in 2021. The Act placed a duty on UK regulators to publish information on the requirements they place on individuals, when both entering and remaining in their professions, by the end of October 2022.
The Act also set out a new approach for assessing individuals with overseas professional qualifications or experience, in line with existing powers, the regulators’ autonomy remains protected in relation to determining entry requirements for a profession and assessing whether individuals are fit to practise.
Part of the supporting infrastructure to the Act is the Regulated Professions Register (RPR), which is intended to be a platform for regulators to voluntarily input information about the requirements they set for individual in their professiona. It will also give the opportunity to list individuals details themselves.
