Superficial deposit
High Speed Rail (Crewe – Manchester) Environmental Statement, Glossary, abbreviations and references, published by the Department for Transport in 2022, defines a superficial deposit as: ‘A geological deposit that was laid down during the Quaternary period. Such deposits were largely formed by river and glacial processes but can also include wind-blown deposits known as loess.’
