Seasonal commissioning
The CIBSE Commissioning Codes generally use the following description to define ‘commissioning’: ‘The advancement of an installation from the state of static completion to full working order to specified requirements. It includes the setting to work of an installation, the recording of set values and performance for future reference, and the regulation of the system.’
The concept of seasonal commissioning recognises that some aspects of the systems need to be commissioned when the external temperatures and indoor occupancy patterns are close to the peak conditions for which the system was designed.
Seasonal commissioning is the performance evaluation of a building and its engineering services under full load conditions during peak heating and cooling seasons, as well as part-load conditions in spring and autumn.
Ref Seasonal Commissioning (BG 44/2013), written by Sands J and published by BSRIA in January 2013.
NB BG 88 Commissioning Responsibilities Framework, by Matt Lowry, published by BSRIA in January 2025, defines seasonal commissioning as: ‘The performance evaluation of a building and its engineering services under full load conditions during peak heating and cooling seasons, as well as part-load conditions in spring and autumn.’
