Hercynian
Green infrastructure and open environments: London’s foundations: protecting the geodiversity of the capital, Supplementary Planning Guidance, published by the Mayor of London in March 2012, defines Hercynian as: ‘A period of mountain building in Europe throughout the late Palaeozoic, synonymous with the Variscan Orogeny. The northern Alps are said to be Hercynian.’
