Variscan
Green infrastructure and open environments: London’s foundations: protecting the geodiversity of the capital, Supplementary Planning Guidance, published by the Mayor of London in March 2012, defines Variscan as: ‘A period of continental collision and mountain building in Europe throughout the late Palaeozoic. The Variscan Orogeny occurred when the continent of Gondwana collided with Laurasian continent creating the supercontinent of Pangaea. The Appalachian mountain range is an outcome of the Variscan Orogeny.’
