Field capacity days
High Speed Rail (Crewe – Manchester) Environmental Statement, Glossary, abbreviations and references, published by the Department for Transport in 2022, defines field capacity days as: ‘A meteorological parameter used to quantify the duration of the period when soils are wet. Soils usually return to field capacity during the autumn or early winter. The field capacity period, measured in days, ends in the spring when evapotranspiration exceeds rainfall and a moisture deficit begins to accumulate in the soil. Opportunities for mechanised fieldwork are then possible without damaging the soil’
