Doorway
A doorway is the opening in a wall into which a door and its frame are fitted. The doorway therefore exists before the door and its frame are fitted or attached into the opening. The term ‘doorway’ can thus mean the opening or the opening and the door that is fitted to it.
Doorway can also mean the space immediately in front of and behind the door and its extent will depend on the radius of the door swing; if someone is obstructing the opening of a door they can be said to be ‘blocking the doorway’.
In the case of revolving doors, the doorway is the circle that is usually formed by the enclosure that contains the turning doors.
