Conformity Assessment Bodies CAB
In the UK government guidance 'UK conformity assessment' the term conformity assessment body (CAB) is used to cover 'Approved Bodies, UK Notified Bodies (for bodies in Northern Ireland assessing to EU requirements), Recognised Third Party Organisations (RTPOs), User Inspectorates (UIs) and Technical Assessment Bodies (TABs).'
In the UK government 'Construction Products Reform Green Paper 2025' published 26 February 2025, Conformity Assessment Bodies (CAB) are defined as comprising of ' testing and calibration laboratories, certification bodies as well as inspection bodies that provide conformity assessment services.'
The UK government guidance 'List of approved conformity assessment bodies' for the UK digital identity and attributes trust framework certification scheme describes the UK digital identity and attributes trust framework as 'a set of government-backed rules, guidance and standards for trustworthy and secure digital identities. Organisations interested in getting certified against the trust framework must engage with one of the approved conformity assessment bodies.'
The guidance lists the approved conformity assessment bodies as:
- AVID Certification Services Ltd trading as Digital Identity Systems Certification (AVID)
- British Standards Institute (BSI)
- Kantara
More detail can be found on the UK Accreditation Service website. At present the Office for Digital Identities and Attributes (OfDIA) has not approved or endorsed any organisations to provide consultancy, advice or gap analysis to identity and attribute service providers wishing to certify against the UK digital identity and attributes trust framework.
