Grommet
Collins Fix It Manual was published in 2003. It was created for HarperCollins by Jackson Day and conceived by David Day, Simon Jennings and Albert Jackson.
It defines a grommet as: ‘Plastic or rubber plug used to conceal a screw fixing. Alternatively, a ring of rubber or plastic that lines a hole to protect electrical cable from chafing. A blind grommet incorporates a thin web of plastic or rubber that seals the hole until the web is cut to provide access for a cable ’.
Blind grommets are typically used to cover holes that have been cut into metal panels.
Grommets for electrical cables are sometimes referred to as insulating bushing or bushing insulator. A bushing is a type of insulating material that permits an electrical conductor to travel safely through a conductor without triggering electrical contact.
Grommet edging is a type of protective bushing or lining that is used on sensitive electrical components to prevent vibrations and other types of movement from causing damage.
