Bargeboard
Short Guide, Maintaining Your Home, published, on 1 November 2014 by Historic Scotland, defines a bargeboard as: ‘the board fixed along the gable of a house to cover the roof timbers and prevent rain from driving in.’
Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB) definition from their online Glossary : 'A wide sloping board set edge uppermost along the top of a gable. It may be carved or ornamented.'
