Baluster
Baluster describes a single vertical element which makes up the balusters, which are the set of posts that run up the side of a staircase. The set of balusters with a top rail or handrail placed at the angle of the stair incline on top is described in whole as a balustrade. Balusters can be plain or decorative expressions, making up both a key structural component of a staircase and part of its general aesthetic.
