Accumulated temperature
The HS2 London-West Midlands Environmental Statement published by the Department for Transport in November 2013, defined ‘accumulated temperature’ as: ‘Median accumulated temperature above 0°C from January to June which gives a measure of heat energy input and soil drying potential and correlates with crop growth and yield.’
High Speed Rail (Crewe – Manchester) Environmental Statement, Glossary, abbreviations and references, published by the Department for Transport in 2022, defines accumulated temperature as: ‘The average temperature above 0°C recorded between January and June for any given year. This is a measure of the relative warmth of a locality and can be used to calculate soil drying potential and correlates with crop growth and yield.’
