Urban uplift
Urban uplift or urban centres uplift aswell as cities uplift in design and construction terms refers to revisions made to the Standard Method for assessing local housing needs as adjusted in the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) in 2021.
The conservative government at the time reverted to the 2018 version of the Standard Method for assessing local housing needs, with the change that the 20 largest Cities and Urban Centres in England recieved a 35% uplift on their targets. The uplift was applied to the Local Planning Authority (LPA) in each city or urban area with the largest population, (except in the case of London), so the uplift in other cities such as Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle etc did not apply to the whole urban area.
