Supercritical flow

Culvert, screen and outfall manual, (CIRIA C786) published by CIRIA in 2019, defines supercritical flow as: ‘Free surface flow with a Froude number greater than unity that occurs in channels with steep slopes, characterised by shallow water and high velocity.’
