Smart charging
The Energy White Paper, Powering our Net Zero Future (CP 337), published in December 2020 by HM Government, defines smart charging as: ‘Connecting an electric vehicle to the electricity grid using a charging device which includes a data connection. This allows electric vehicles that are plugged in using smart chargers to be charged when it is the most efficient, in terms of cost for the consumer and/or from the point of view of balancing supply and demand across the electricity system.’
