Scoria block
The second edition of The Dictionary of Urbanism by Rob Cowan, published in 2020, suggests that a scoria block is: ‘A particularly durable and robust block, used for building and paving, made (from the eighteenth century onwards) from scoria (the residue of metal-smelting processes). Scoria is Ancient Greek for excrement.’
