River continuity
Culvert, screen and outfall manual, (CIRIA C786) published by CIRIA in 2019, defines river continuity as: ‘The passage of river flows (of water and sediment) in a longitudinal (downstream) direction. Continuity can be disrupted by natural barriers such as waterfalls, or by hydraulic structures such as dams or weirs.’
