Residual carbon
Renewable Energy Procurement & Carbon Offsetting, Guidance for net zero carbon buildings, published by the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) in March 2021, states: ‘In the context of NZCB (Net Zero Carbon Building) Framework Definition, the residual carbon (or residual emissions) relates to the remaining emissions once it has been reduced as far as possible in line with Steps 1 – 4 of the Framework Definition. These steps relate to reductions in whole life carbon, improvements in energy efficiency and the procurement of renewable energy.’
