Pressure-relief valve
The 2018 International Residential Code (IRC), published by the International Code Council (ICC) defines a pressure-relief valve as: ‘A pressure-actuated valve held closed by a spring or other means and designed to automatically relieve pressure at the pressure at which it is set.’
Approved Document G, Sanitation, hot water safety and water efficiency, 2015 edition with 2016 amendments, defines a pressure relief valve as: ‘…a mechanically operated valve that opens to discharge water when a fixed (factory set) pressure is exceeded.’
