Non-metallic, uninsulated flexible ductwork
BS EN 13180 defines flexible ductwork as: 'Duct which can be manually longitudinally compressed or decompressed and flexed without permanently damaging the cross section area'
Structural Fixings for Ductwork Systems BG 10/2010, By Glenn Hawkins, Published by BSRIA in 2010, lists the following types of flexible ductwork:
- Metallic, uninsulated flexible ductwork
- Metallic, insulated flexible ductwork
- Non-metallic, uninsulated flexible ductwork
- Non-metallic, insulated flexible ductwork
- Acoustic flexible ductwork
In relation to non-metallic, uninsulated flexible ductwork, it suggests that: ‘This type of flexible duct is typically composed of a polyamide fabric or PVC-coated glass cloth supported by an encapsulated high-tensile steel wire helix.’
