Mutule
Mutule is an historical term that refers to a square stone bracket which is projects more horizontally than it does vertically, as such it is a cantilever bracket.
Normally associated with the Doric order it supports a cornice, and is usually decorated with rows of shorts circular extrusions or drops (also referred to as guttae). It is found in Greek and Roman architecture and is a form of stone expression that might derive from the exposed ends of wooden rafters in Greek temples.
Possibly the most famous example of mutules can be found at the top of the Pathenon, Athens in Greece.
