Functional specification
Guide to Controls (BG 83/2023) written by John Marrow and published by BSRIA in June 2023, states: ‘A functional specification is a statement of detailed requirements for the control system. In particular, statements about the control and monitoring strategies for specific items of plant are detailed. Requirements of particular devices such as the operator interface, controller, sensors and actuators are written as a set of functional statements. An example is: “All isolating valves open at the end of the occupancy period shall remain open for the specified run-on period”.’
