Culvert, screen and outfall manual, (CIRIA C786) published by CIRIA in 2019, defines energy grade line as: ‘A theoretical line showing the total head or the sum of the elevation, pressure and velocity heads, of a flow relative to a datum. The slope of the energy grade line is the energy gradient.’
