Buildings Advisory Committee BAC

The Buildings Advisory Committee (BAC) is "A high-level steering group that provides independent advice and information to the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) on new and emerging issues in the built environment." Construction Products Reform White Paper published 26 February.

HSE indicated that the first time would meet would be in December 2022, committee consisting of a high level steering group, underpinned by separate technical working groups focussing on specific areas of work.

The Building Safety Act 2022 created the new Building Safety Regulator (BSR) in England, initially part of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), then moved to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) and then established as an independent body. The Building Safety Regulator (BSR) having a role to advise the government on the safety and standard of all buildings. The Building Safety Act 2022 also included a requirement to set up a Building Advisory Committee (BAC) to provide advice and information to BSR. The aim being that BAC assists BSR in addressing new and emerging issues across the built environment, will also provide leadership across industry and drive change.

The committee will however not consider issues relating to: the competence of persons within the building industry or registered building inspectors or matters within the remit of the Residents Panel. Text and image from the article Building Advisory Committee by HSE.
