Culvert, screen and outfall manual, (CIRIA C786) published by CIRIA in 2019, defines a boulder trap as: ‘A course screen with widely-spaced bars or settling basin designed to trap large sediment rolling along the watercourse as bed load, and to allow the remaining water and floating debris to overflow.’
