Net zero embodied carbon
Improving Consistency in Whole Life Carbon Assessment and Reporting, Carbon Definitions for the Built Environment, Buildings and Infrastructure, Version ‘A’, May 2021, published by WLCN, LETI and RIBA, defines a net zero embodied carbon asset as one where: ‘the sum total of GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions and removals over an asset’s life cycle (Modules A1-A5, B1-B5 and C1-C4) are minimized, meets local carbon targets (e.g.kgCO2e/m2), and with additional ‘offsets’, equals zero.’
NB Life cycle modules are defined in BS EN 15978 and PAS 2080 for infrastructure.
